Is the SpaceX Threat Being Overblown?
I didn’t expect T-Mobile to take a hit this big, but the SpaceX threat has investors paying attention. Shares of T-Mobile plunged more than 13% in their worst single-day drop since 2013 after SpaceX’s Starlink spectrum deal raised fears of tougher competition in wireless. AT&T and Verizon also sold off as investors started thinking about what a satellite-powered phone network could mean for traditional carriers. I’m watching , and closely because this could change how investors value the entire telecom industry. I’m not assuming traditional carriers are finished, but I do think the competition deserves attention. Do you think this sell-off is an overreaction, or could SpaceX become a serious threat to wireless companies?
The sell-off feels aggressive, but Starlink’s wireless ambitions are worth watching to see whether the threat justifies the market’s reaction.
Even if SpaceX grows, I feel like Verizon has enough of a loyal base to stay competitive for many years. Change is coming, but maybe not as fast as the stock chart suggests.
