Eli Lilly's pipeline data shows new weight loss drugs outperforming Zepbound
Eli Lilly (LLY) has some new trial data out for their next-generation weight loss drugs. Their upcoming drug, retatrutide, targets three gut hormones instead of two. Phase 3 results showed up to 28.3% average weight loss, which beats Zepbound's 20.2% in a similar population. They plan to file for approval in Q1 2027.
They also reported Phase 2 results for another combo treatment that led to 23.3% weight loss in 48 weeks. Phase 3 trials for that combination start in Q4. The obesity market is expected to keep growing rapidly, and it looks like LLY is building a deep pipeline to maintain their lead over new competitors.

LLY’s pipeline looks impressive, especially with retatrutide showing stronger weight-loss results than Zepbound. I’m curious whether this can help Lilly maintain its lead as competition in the obesity drug market keeps growing.
