SIMO Q2 revenue up 127% YoY, forward P/E still under 20

SIMO Q2 revenue up 127% YoY, forward P/E still under 20

Silicon Motion Technology (SIMO) is getting a lot of traction from the ongoing memory chip shortage. Analysts expect this shortage could last until 2031 since big players like Micron and Samsung are already selling out their capacity years in advance. SIMO makes SSDs and flash controllers that are heavily used in AI data centers. Their Q2 numbers were solid. Revenue grew 127% year-over-year and net income was up 7x with a 30% profit margin. The AI-focused segments are driving a lot of this, with SSD boot drive sales up over 1600%. Management is projecting Q3 revenue around $541M, which would be another 124% growth from last year. The stock has run up this year but still has a forward P/E of 19.6 and a market cap under $10B. Next earnings report is coming up in late October.

The growth numbers are hard to ignore, especially with AI driving stronger demand for SSDs and controllers. I’m curious whether can keep this momentum going while still looking reasonably valued.

It is great to see Silicon Motion Technology showing such strong margins alongside that revenue growth. Definitely keeping an eye on them for October.

Those growth numbers definitely stand out. The big question is whether this pace can hold as expectations keep rising.

The demand for memory controllers is huge, so it makes sense that Silicon Motion Technology is seeing such a jump in their revenue. Let's see if the next report confirms this trend.
