Thoughts on Redwire (RDW) compared to other space stocks

SpaceX and Rocket Lab get most of the attention in the space sector, but their valuations are pretty high. SpaceX is trading around 68x trailing sales and Rocket Lab is at 56x. I've been looking at Redwire (RDW) as an alternative. They don't launch rockets. They build space infrastructure like solar arrays, docking systems, and are even working on microgravity pharma research. Their Q2 financials showed improvement. Gross profit hit $32.5 million, up from a loss last year. Net loss narrowed to $40.9 million. They also have a $322 million backlog and over $509 million in cash, so the balance sheet is solid. Management reaffirmed their revenue forecast of $450 to $500 million for the year. That would be about 42% top-line growth. At 5x trailing sales, it seems like a more reasonable valuation for exposure to the sector.

Redwire is an interesting one to watch. I like that its business goes beyond rocket launches, but the real test is whether it can turn that backlog into consistent revenue growth and move closer to profitability.

It is nice to see a space company focusing on infrastructure rather than just launching rockets. Redwire seems like a much cheaper way to get exposure to the industry.

Redwire’s lower valuation and improving gross profit make it an interesting space alternative, but execution on that 42% growth forecast will be key.

Building solar arrays and docking systems sounds like a more stable business model than chasing launch contracts. Let us see if Redwire can maintain this momentum.
