GE Vernova vs X-Energy for AI data center power demand
GE Vernova vs X-Energy for AI data center power demand
AI data center power demands are pushing tech companies toward nuclear energy and small modular reactors (SMRs). GE Vernova (GEV) is the safe play here with a $176B backlog in gas turbines and a water-cooled SMR in the works. X-Energy (XE) is a speculative small-cap that IPO'd in April. They are developing helium-cooled SMRs that run hotter for industrial use, targeting deployment in the 2030s for companies like Amazon. GEV offers immediate exposure, while XE is a volatile long-term bet.

GE Vernova offers exposure to near-term power demand, while X-Energy is a longer-term bet on advanced nuclear technology. The key difference is how quickly each can turn its projects into real growth.

GE Vernova feels like the much safer choice given how fast the power demand is growing right now. X-Energy is an interesting play for the future but definitely seems more like a wild card for my portfolio.
