Berkshire is buying traditional homebuilders while modular housing stocks grow

High mortgage rates are squeezing traditional homebuilders, shifting some focus to factory-built housing. Lennar (LEN) reported Q3 new orders dropped 9% and lowered their delivery outlook. Berkshire Hathaway seems to be buying the dip, recently taking a 10% stake in Lennar and starting a new position in D.R. Horton (DHI). Modular builders are seeing some growth from the affordability squeeze. Cavco (CVCO) reported revenue up 9.5% to $610 million and a 50% jump in their backlog. Boxabl (BXBL) is building out its corporate board after going public via SPAC in July, adding an ex-EY partner as audit chair. Champion Homes (SKY) also added a new independent director.

The shift toward modular housing is getting interesting as affordability pressures reshape the traditional homebuilding market.

i think Lennar and D.R. Horton have a tough road ahead with these interest rates, but it is hard to bet against Buffett.
