QQQ historical returns and long-term outlook

QQQ historical returns and long-term outlook

The Invesco QQQ ETF has seen a 572% total return over the last decade. Tech makes up 66% of the fund, with the top 10 stocks accounting for 47% of the portfolio. Nvidia is currently the top holding. The fund has averaged a 21% annualized return since September 2016. Bulls argue AI growth and reasonable forward earnings estimates will keep this momentum going. Others expect mean reversion, noting these major tech companies will likely see slower growth as they mature.

QQQ’s decade-long performance is impressive, but its heavy tech concentration means future returns will depend on AI growth and how earnings evolve as mega-caps mature.

The growth in Invesco QQQ has been incredible to watch from overseas. I wonder if the next decade will look anything like the last one given how mature these companies are getting.

QQQ’s track record is impressive, but with tech making up so much of the fund, the next decade may look very different. AI could keep driving growth, but concentration risk is real.

Even with the risks, it is tough to find another sector with the same kind of innovation pipeline that Alphabet and the other leaders are building.
