Tesla Semi orders are starting to pick up after years of delays
Tesla announced the Semi back in 2017, but production didn't actually start until 2022. As of last year, they had only sold a couple hundred units. It looks like demand is finally starting to pick up though.
Swedish transport company Einride just ordered 500 Semis on Aug 18, and California-based WattEV ordered 370 units back in May.
A big part of the appeal is the potential for autonomous driving, which could heavily reduce labor and fuel costs. McKinsey estimates fully autonomous trucking will be viable by 2032. Since developing this requires massive software investments, Tesla's size gives it a strong advantage over competitors in getting the tech ready for mass adoption.
