A look at SpaceX and Rocket Lab fundamentals

SpaceX (SPCX) and Rocket Lab (RKLB) are the two main pure-play space stocks right now, but their financials are very different. Rocket Lab reported Q1 revenue of $200.3M, up 63.5% YoY, and built a $2.2B backlog. The catch is they are still losing money. They posted a $45M net loss for the quarter. They report Q2 earnings next week, which should give updates on their Neutron rocket development and launch cadence. SpaceX is showing much stronger numbers since its June IPO. They posted $7.8B in Q1 revenue, up 92% from last year. Starlink is the main driver here, making up 69% of total revenue with over 10.3 million subscribers. They also control over 80% of the commercial launch market. Rocket Lab offers potential upside if they can scale up and get Neutron working, but it carries execution risk. SpaceX already has proven demand with Starlink and a massive market share, making it the more stable pick for space exposure.

RKLB has the higher-risk growth story, while SpaceX looks much more established with Starlink and launch-market dominance. Neutron could be the big catalyst for Rocket Lab.

really curious to see if Rocket Lab can hit those Neutron targets on time. it is a big gamble but the payoff could be massive for long term holders.

SpaceX has the scale and proven cash-generating engine, while Rocket Lab offers more upside but with much higher execution risk around Neutron and profitability.

SpaceX seems so far ahead with Starlink that it is almost unfair. i wonder if anyone can actually bridge that gap in the next few years.
