Summary: D-Wave vs IonQ approaches in quantum computing

Summary: D-Wave vs IonQ approaches in quantum computing

Comparison of D-Wave and IonQ based on recent analysis. D-Wave specializes in quantum annealing which is currently used for supply chain optimization and has over 100 paying customers. They are now pushing into gate-based systems using fluxonium qubits to broaden their market. IonQ uses a trapped-ion gate-based approach. The main argument for them is stability and accuracy, with reported 99.99% fidelity. They are building a full ecosystem with error correction software and have made acquisitions to handle scaling. The take here is that IonQ might have better long-term potential because the gate-based approach is more lucrative than annealing, but both companies are still high-risk investments.

both seem like such high risk plays right now but the potential is huge. IonQ definitely feels like the long term winner if they can scale that fidelity.
