Update on tariff lawsuits, rebate checks, and the Supreme Court case
National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett said the administration expects to win the Supreme Court case challenging the legality of the tariffs. If they lose, the government might have to refund up to $100 billion. Hassett also mentioned that $2,000 tariff rebate checks are looking more likely and a formal proposal is expected next year.
Companies like Costco have filed lawsuits hoping for refunds. Some businesses are even selling their rights to these potential government refunds to investors to get cash now.
Trump also announced a $1,776 payment for service members, claiming it is funded by tariff revenue, although data shows tariff income actually dropped last month. Additionally, new duties on Chinese chips were announced but delayed until 2027.

Wow, $100 billion is a massive sum if the government loses that Supreme Court case! That would be quite a development.
