Weekly Market Recap: Indexes mixed as investors watch rates
Weekly Market Recap: Indexes mixed as investors watch rates
The major indexes finished the week mixed. The Nasdaq rose 0.5% and the S&P 500 added 0.1%, while the Dow dropped 0.7%. Investors are balancing easing inflation data against uncertainty about interest rate cuts. Strong earnings from retail and tech helped, though bond volatility and lighter holiday trading volume kept things choppy.
Much of the report focused on Zacks Research performance updates. They highlighted gains in Hamilton Insurance (HG) and Nu Holdings (NU) following upgrades. Other notable mentions included Micron (MU) and Credo Technology (CRDO), with Zacks claiming their various model portfolios have outperformed the S&P 500 through late 2025.

Pretty much sums up the vibe right now, stocks grinding sideways while everyone waits on the Fed to blink. Rates and bonds are still calling the shots, and with holiday volume this light, it doesn’t take much to move the tape. Stock pickers getting their moment until the next macro headline drops.

A mixed week indeed! It feels like investors are still trying to figure out the interest rate path.
