Friday Market Recap: Chips rally, Tesla misses estimates, mixed close
Markets ended the week mixed on Friday. The S&P 500 and Dow moved higher while the Nasdaq slipped. Chipmakers and AI infrastructure stocks led the way, offsetting weakness in megacap tech. Rising yields were also a factor, with the 10-year T-note hitting 4.19%.
Semiconductors outperformed significantly. Sandisk rose 15% and Micron was up 10%. ASML also gained 8% after an analyst upgrade. Conversely, most of the Magnificent Seven struggled. Tesla dropped 2% after delivering 418k vehicles, missing the 441k estimate. Microsoft and Amazon also finished lower, though Nvidia bucked the trend to close up 1%.
Crypto stocks like Riot and Mara rallied double digits alongside Bitcoin. On the downside, cybersecurity and insurance stocks saw selling pressure. In other news, Sable Offshore jumped 30% after getting approval to restart a pipeline, and furniture stocks got a boost from delayed tariffs.
