Cathie Wood continues buying Beam Therapeutics (BEAM) ahead of trial readouts
Cathie Wood recently bought another $2.8 million in Beam Therapeutics (BEAM) for her ARKG fund. Ark now holds around $220.4 million of the stock across its ETFs. The stock is down over 14% this year.
Beam focuses on base gene editing, which is a more precise version of standard CRISPR technology. They currently have eight therapies in early trials, mainly targeting sickle cell disease and other blood disorders.
They are still far from profitable. They reported an EPS loss of $2.09 for the first half of the year, but they do have $1.15 billion in cash. Management says this is enough to fund operations through mid-2029, so they shouldn't need to raise capital anytime soon. They also have partnerships backing them from Pfizer and Eli Lilly.
One side note is they just filed a lawsuit against Serapha Bio and YolTech Therapeutics for allegedly stealing trade secrets. The main things to watch going forward are the clinical trial data readouts they have scheduled over the next 12 to 18 months.
