Q2 update on quantum computing stocks
Quantum computing stocks like IonQ, Rigetti, and D-Wave are still years away from profitability. IonQ reported $80.1M in Q2 sales, but it was mostly from acquisitions, and their EBITDA loss grew to $120.3M. Rigetti and D-Wave only pulled in $5.1M and $3.1M in revenue.
All three trade at high valuations. IonQ's price-to-sales ratio is 59, while Rigetti and D-Wave are at 396 and 485. They have enough cash on hand to keep operating, but real commercial revenue isn't expected until around 2029.
IBM is the lower-risk option right now. Their Q2 revenue was up 1% and earnings rose 5%. They trade at a 20 P/E, and management expects their quantum investments to start showing up in revenue by 2028.

Quantum computing has huge potential, but those valuations are hard to justify without stronger commercial revenue. IBM looks like a more balanced way to get exposure while the technology matures.

Quantum has huge potential, but those valuations are tough to ignore. IBM looks like a more established play, while the pure-play stocks still have a lot to prove commercially.
