Eli Lilly hits $1T market cap on weight-loss drug dominance
Eli Lilly just became the first healthcare stock to hit a $1 trillion valuation. The growth is mostly driven by their weight-loss drug Zepbound, which showed a 20.2% weight loss in clinical trials compared to Novo Nordisk's Wegovy at 13.7%.
Competition is growing with companies like Amgen developing new options, but LLY's pipeline looks strong. Their experimental drug retatrutide posted 28.3% weight loss in trials, which is close to bariatric surgery levels. They are also testing an oral maintenance drug called Foundayo to help patients keep the weight off after their initial treatment.
The stock is currently trading at 24.4x forward earnings against a sector average of 18.3x. The premium is largely based on their diabetes and weight-loss dominance, though they are also working to expand into oncology and neuroscience.

Eli Lilly’s pipeline gives it plenty of growth potential, but a $1 trillion valuation leaves high expectations to meet. Competition, pricing pressure, and long-term patient demand will be key to watch.

That valuation is definitely high, but the potential for their other drugs is what keeps me interested in Eli Lilly. Let's see how the market reacts over the coming months.
