The U.S. Economy Keeps Defying the Recession Calls
The more I look at the latest economic data, the harder it is to argue that the U.S. economy is slowing down. The latest data shows the economy is in the middle of one of its longest stretches of sustained growth dating back to 1854. Even with high interest rates, inflation concerns and plenty of recession calls, the economy has continued to hold up. What catches my attention is the disconnect between all the economic warning signs people have been talking about and what the actual data is showing. I’m watching , and closely because a stronger-than-expected economy could keep supporting stocks, but it could also make the Fed more cautious about cutting rates. For me, the big question is whether this economic strength can continue without bringing inflation back into the picture. Are you surprised the U.S. economy has held up this well?
The economy has held up better than many expected. The big question now is whether that strength keeps inflation sticky and limits how quickly the Fed can ease.
