Overview of 5 quantum computing stocks and their different approaches
Quantum computing is shaping up to be the next big tech focus after AI. Since the tech is still early and companies are trying different methods, building a basket of small positions across several stocks might make sense. Here is a breakdown of five companies in the space.
IonQ (IONQ): They use a trapped-ion method with microwave antennas in their chips. They have the highest accuracy right now at 99.99% 2-qubit gate fidelity and just showed off a real-time error correction decoder.
Quantinuum (QNT): Another trapped-ion company. They are at 99.92% fidelity and aiming for 99.999% by 2027. They also have a strong software side with an open-source language called Guppy.
D-Wave Quantum (QBTS): Known for quantum annealing, which is already used commercially. They are now moving toward a gate-based system using superconducting qubits to combine high accuracy with more speed.
Infleqtion (INFQ): They use a neutral-atom approach. By suspending uncharged atoms in a vacuum, they can get higher qubit density since the atoms do not repel each other.
IBM (IBM): The only mature company on the list. They use a superconducting qubit approach that is faster but currently less accurate. They have a massive cash advantage, planning to invest $10 billion over the next five years to get a fault-tolerant system by 2029.

The range of approaches makes quantum especially interesting, but accuracy, scalability, and commercial adoption will ultimately separate the winners from the hype.
