US gov gave $100M each to three quantum computing stocks
The US government handed out $100 million each to three quantum computing companies under the CHIPS Act to push US leadership in the space.
Rigetti (RGTI) and D-Wave (QBTS) both had to give the government an equity stake in exchange for the funding. Rigetti focuses on superconducting tech, which is fast but struggles with accuracy. D-Wave already sells commercial quantum annealing systems for optimization problems and is building a new gate-based system.
Quantinuum (QNT) got the $100 million without giving up any equity. They use trapped-ion tech, which is slower but highly accurate. They are backed by Honeywell and have a solid software stack. The article points to QNT as the best bet right now because accuracy is the main hurdle for quantum computers at this stage.

The funding is a strong validation for quantum computing, but accuracy and scalability will likely determine which technology wins long term.
