Comparing NIO and Lucid as EV turnaround plays

Comparing NIO and Lucid as EV turnaround plays

Both NIO and LCID have crashed from their all-time highs and are currently trading around $4. If you are looking at them for a long-term turnaround, NIO seems to have a better setup. NIO delivered 326k vehicles in 2025 and hit $19.1 billion in revenue. They reached adjusted profitability in the first half of 2026. They are scaling up with cheaper sub-brands and unique features like their own battery swapping stations. Lucid only delivered about 15.8k vehicles in 2025. They brought in $1.35 billion in revenue but had a massive net loss of $3.68 billion. They are still burning cash and relying heavily on Saudi funding to stay afloat. Right now, NIO trades at 0.5x this year's sales with projected profitability in 2027. Lucid trades at 1x sales and analysts expect it to stay deeply unprofitable for a while. Both are risky bets, but NIO has actually proven it can scale.

NIO’s scale and improving profitability give it a stronger operating track record, while Lucid still has more to prove on deliveries, cash burn, and execution.

It is interesting to see the scale difference between the two companies. I agree that NIO has more momentum, even if the whole EV sector is feeling pretty rough lately.
