SMCI misses Q4 revenue estimates but jumps 19% on strong FY27 guidance

Super Micro Computer (SMCI) missed Q4 revenue estimates, reporting $11.1 billion versus the expected $11.55 billion. Despite the miss, the stock jumped about 19% on Wednesday. The main catalyst was their fiscal 2027 guidance. Management projected revenue between $65 billion and $72 billion, well above the $52.5 billion analysts were modeling. Q4 gross margins also came in unusually high at 17.5%, up from 9.9% last quarter and much higher than their original 8.2% to 8.4% forecast. This margin boost pushed net income to $1.17 billion. There are a few risks to keep an eye on. The financial results are still preliminary, and the board is conducting an independent review over alleged export-control issues. Scaling up is also straining their balance sheet, with inventories nearly tripling to $12.9 billion. Shares are currently trading around $38. That puts the P/E around 11.5, which implies the market isn't fully convinced that this quarter's margin jump is a permanent trend.
