Rocket Lab wins $397M Space Force contract, stock up 9.5%
Rocket Lab (RKLB) won a $397 million Space Force contract to build, launch, and operate new military tracking satellites. They took the largest chunk of a $615 million program, with the rest split between STR LLC and a third unnamed company. Space Force is trying to diversify suppliers after giving SpaceX a $4.1 billion contract for the same program back in May.
The catch is the contract is fixed-price, meaning Rocket Lab pays for any cost overruns. The satellites are also meant to fly on their new Neutron rocket, which has faced several delays. First launch is scheduled for Q4. RKLB has been growing revenue and shrinking its net loss, but a lot rides on getting Neutron off the ground successfully to avoid delays and make this contract work. Stock was up about 9.5% on the news.

Big contract win for Rocket Lab, but the Neutron launch timeline is still the key piece, execution will determine how much of this opportunity turns into lasting growth.

the neutron rocket is definitely the biggest factor here. if rocket lab gets it flying soon, this contract is going to be massive for them.
