Netflix vs Disney in a potential recession

Netflix vs Disney in a potential recession

The S&P 500 is up 13% this year, but recession fears are still lingering. If the economy does slow down, Netflix looks like a safer hold than Disney. Both stocks are down this year, but streaming is generally resilient since it's cheap entertainment. The main difference comes down to Disney's theme parks, which make up 54% of their operating profit. A Disney World trip can cost a family over $7,000. That's exactly the kind of spending people cut first during a recession. Netflix's pure streaming model doesn't have that heavy exposure to consumer travel and leisure.

Netflix may have the edge in a recession thanks to its lower-cost entertainment model, while Disney’s parks business could face more pressure from weaker discretionary spending.

it’s a tough one because disney has so many loyal fans, but netflix is just so much more accessible. i think people will choose the cheaper subscription every time.
