okay so just approved a $2 billion buyback and dropped a $1.05 cash dividend the same month
Buffett literally regretted the one time Berkshire paid a dividend in 1967 but the data shows dividends have accounted for roughly 40% of total stock returns since 1936
and buybacks only really work if you're buying below intrinsic value otherwise you're just destroying shareholder money
so which one actually wins and does it even matter in this rate environment?

buybacks are great when the market is down but i worry when microsoft does them at all-time highs. it feels like they could use that capital for more research instead.
