A look at three stocks positioning for quantum computing: QBTS, IONQ, NVDA
Quantum computing is looking like the next major tech trend after AI. Useful applications are still a few years out, but a few companies are already positioning themselves in the space.
D-Wave (QBTS) is focusing on quantum annealing, which targets optimization problems. They recently closed a $20M deal with Florida Atlantic University and a $10M agreement with a Fortune 100 company. They are also pursuing gate-model systems to broaden their approach.
IonQ (IONQ) is operating as a pure-play quantum company. Their Q1 revenue jumped to $64.7M, mostly from early-stage systems and research partnerships. They are currently focused on reducing high error rates in quantum calculations.
Nvidia (NVDA) is taking a different route. They aren't building a quantum processor. Instead, they are building infrastructure for a hybrid model that connects quantum computers with traditional supercomputers. They recently released their CUDA-Q software and a new AI model called Ising to help with quantum error correction.

and got the hype, but somehow finding a way to profit off the whole quantum wave too.

Quantum still feels early, but companies building the infrastructure and software around it could end up being the safer long-term bets.
