IonQ acquiring SkyWater Technology for $1.8B
IonQ announced they are acquiring SkyWater Technology for $35 per share in a cash and stock transaction. The deal values SkyWater at about $1.8 billion, which is a 38% premium to the recent average price. Shareholders will receive $15 in cash and $20 in IonQ stock per share.
The move is intended to vertically integrate IonQ's operations and secure a U.S. supply chain for quantum chip manufacturing. Management expects this to accelerate their roadmap, aiming to start functional testing of 200,000 qubit processors by 2028. SkyWater will continue as a subsidiary and keep serving its existing foundry customers.
