J&J hit with $250k verdict in Pennsylvania talc trial
Johnson & Johnson lost a verdict in Pennsylvania state court on Friday. A jury awarded $250,000 to the family of a woman who claimed their talc baby powder caused her ovarian cancer. The damages were split between $50k compensatory and $200k punitive.
The company is facing over 67,000 lawsuits alleging the products contained asbestos. They tried to resolve these through bankruptcy three times, but federal courts rejected those attempts. J&J also faces a recent federal ruling that allows plaintiffs to present expert testimony linking the powder to cancer.
