Disney investing $1 billion in OpenAI and licensing characters to Sora
Disney announced a $1 billion investment in OpenAI. The deal gives them access to the Sora video generator for marketing and productions, while OpenAI gets licensing rights to over 200 characters. CEO Bob Iger said they need to get on board with tech disruption rather than stand in the way.
The timing is interesting as Netflix and Paramount are reportedly making bids for Warner Bros assets. There is some skepticism about whether consumers will accept AI content, especially after McDonald's pulled an AI commercial recently due to backlash. Oracle was also mentioned in the article regarding the high capital costs required for AI infrastructure.

Big swing from , but it’s a bit of a coin flip. If Sora actually cuts costs and boosts content, it’s smart. If fans keep hating on AI-made stuff, that $1B could get real quiet real fast.
