Charter Communications Lays Off 1,200 Amid Subscriber Losses and Stock Drop
Charter Communications is cutting about 1,200 corporate and management jobs, roughly 1% of its workforce, after losing 177,000 internet customers in the first half of the year. The layoffs target headquarters and management centers, not sales or service staff. Charter’s stock is down 27% YTD, and this comes ahead of its pending $34.5B deal to acquire Cox Communications, which is still awaiting regulatory approval. Cable TV revenues continue to drop due to cord-cutting, and Charter has increasingly focused on bundling streaming apps for broadband customers.
