AMD and the shift toward agentic AI in data centers
Agentic AI is starting to become more prominent, which is when AI actually performs tasks instead of just generating text or images. Because of this shift, data centers are going to need a lot more CPUs for sequential reasoning and orchestration.
Right now, the GPU-to-CPU ratio in data centers is around 8-to-1, but both AMD and Intel expect this to shift closer to 1-to-1. AMD is currently the market leader in data center CPUs and they are seeing demand start to outstrip supply. They recently revised their 2030 server CPU market forecast from $60 billion up to $120 billion. Since agentic AI requires high-core CPUs, average selling prices are expected to increase as well.

i hadn't considered how agentic ai would change the hardware balance like that. AMD definitely looks like they are ahead of the curve right now.
