Markets up slightly despite Iran tensions, tech struggles, and JPM warns Tesla could drop 60%
Markets closed slightly green on Monday despite the ongoing conflict in Iran. The S&P gained 0.4% and the Nasdaq added 0.5%. Trump gave a Tuesday deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, but so far neither side has agreed to a ceasefire.
Tech stocks are slipping a bit despite the corporate push for AI. The conflict is pushing yields higher, which is dragging down the tech rally. Goldman Sachs also noted that AI is starting to slow down the job market for tech workers, who are taking longer to find new roles and seeing pay cuts.
JPMorgan put out a note warning that Tesla could see a 60% drop to a $160 price target. They mentioned that financial and performance expectations for the company have collapsed through the end of the decade. Some analysts think a SpaceX merger might be needed if their robotaxi plans fall flat.
In other news, prediction market Kalshi won a federal court ruling that prevents state gaming regulators from blocking their contracts. Jamie Dimon also released his annual 48-page shareholder letter, focusing heavily on the continued risk of inflation.

Market kinda holding up but the cracks showing. Tech getting hit by rates, geopolitics heating up, and that Tesla call is wild, 60% downside is no joke. Feels like everything’s hanging on macro right now.
