China's biggest ports set container records in 2025 despite the trade war. Shanghai and Ningbo-Zhoushan handled over 90 million TEUs combined in the first 11 months. Shanghai hit its 50 million mark nearly a month faster than in 2024, which they are attributing to better AI and automation. Shipping rates are also ticking back up. Spot rates rose 7% to around $1,927 per container after dropping for three weeks. Carriers seem to be using weekly small price increases to keep rates elevated on routes to the US and Europe.
