Market recap: Indexes green despite jobs miss, CRM and retail earnings beat
Major indexes ended green today even though the ADP payrolls report came in negative. We lost 32k private jobs last month when everyone expected a gain, which pretty much cements a rate cut from the Fed next week.
Tech was a mixed bag. Microsoft dropped 2.5% after reports they are lowering AI software sales quotas, and Nvidia slipped 1%. Tesla outperformed the group, finishing up 4%. Salesforce is up about 3% in extended trading after beating earnings and raising guidance on strong AI demand.
Retail earnings were surprisingly solid. American Eagle jumped 15% and Dollar Tree rose nearly 4%, with the latter seeing more high-income shoppers looking for value. Marvell Technology also had a good day, rising on data center growth and a new acquisition.
On the losing side, GitLab dropped 13% and Pure Storage fell 13% after their respective reports.
